A spirit loses its skin as a part of the damage it incurs after death. That's why the spirit goes on looking for new skin to cover itself with.
Some spirits get mad when they lose their skin, so living humans have to incur their wrath as the spirits search for more skin to cover themselves with.

When you incur the wrath of an angry spirit it'll try to cover itself with your skin, and you'll feel your skin heat (ひ) up.
It feels like your skin is burning a little. You're about to incur the same kind of damage the spirit did when it lost its skin cover. Oww owww!
