The gate to talent is now closed. In fact, the gate to talent is always closed. It's not like anyone can just waltz in and get themselves some talent. You have to work for it! You have to work hard to get through that closed gate to talent!
After your hard work, hear the gate close behind you with a creak. You're on the inside now, you're one of the talented ones. And your talents have changed you, made you different from the others — much like the talent radical in this kanji is a little different from its usual shape!

Outside the talent gate that's always closed, hay (へい) is piled up to make beds for the people who are still trying to get in. Who knows how long they'll be there outside the closed gate, sleeping in the hay, but they're all working hard to become talented.
Picture a bunch of people outside the closed gates, sleeping in piles of hay. You were there too once. You know how itchy that hay is, and how cold it can be at night. But it was all worth it.
