Somebody tried to mug Remi (まぐれ), your friend, but by chance they managed to escape! Their escape was a fluke, but what a relief they didn't get mugged. This word can be written in kanji, but the kana version is way more common. In fact, it'd be quite a fluke if you saw it in kanji.
